Minneapolis/St. Paul | Minnesota

A perfect storm of environmental concerns prompted the creation of the Dakota County [Minnesota] Farmland and Natural Areas Program. Rapid growth, declining water quality, and the possibility of a metro airport got the attention of county government officials and county residents. This heightened concern led to a successful collaborative effort that, by the end of 2013, had conserved almost 10,000 acres in a portion of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area.
